WELCOME TO THE SPRING JOURNAL, UPDATING YOU ON RECENT ACTIVITY AND NEWS FROM COVERHAM CHURCH
SPRING 2024

The Wild Coverdale Flower Festival will promote the use of native, locally grown seasonal flowers and foliage, sustainably arranged without the use of harmful floral foam, as a backdrop for unique events over the weekend. We are supported by Shane Connolly, who holds HM The King’s Royal Warrant as supplier for event flowers, who has instigated the sustainable church flower movement, www.suschurchflowers.com.

On the evening of Friday 31st May, world-famous Kathryn Tickell OBE, vocalist and champion of Northumbrian pipes, accompanied by Amy Thatcher, will launch the festival with a stunning performance of two 45 minute sets, with an interval for drinks and eats. As Richard Morrison of the Times wrote “I can’t remember feeling so exhilarated by a match of landscape and music”. She has twice won the “BBC 2 Musician of the Year” Folk Award and has recorded and performed with Sting, Jacob Collier and the Chieftains amongst many others. Have a look at kathryntickell on Instagram or www.kathryntickell.com to get a flavour of her talent. Tickets are limited and we would advise early booking using this link.
On Saturday 1st June we aim to attract flower-clubs, florists and horticulturists from all over the North-East, together with Coverdale community and friends from further afield, to hear more about the sustainable flower movement, which is only a whisper at the moment. The day will include refreshments and demonstrations with the flower festival as a backdrop. There will be tickets available for the morning session 10.30-12.30 am or afternoon 2.30-4.30pm, and we would advise early booking using this link.
